It's Not Too Late To Dream

Ever since I can remember, I have been a big dreamer. And I think most kids are when they’re little. They dream of being on stage as a big star, scoring the winning touchdown when the buzzer hits zero, and some dream of helping people as a doctor or a lawyer. It is a sweet time. But then life happens and somewhere along the way, the dreaming becomes less intensive, smaller, and sometimes for people, nonexistent.

I won’t go into why this happens. There are so many forces working against us in this area. I will just go into BEGGING you to dream again. If I were with you I would ask you, “What is your most audacious dream?” You would probably tell me something small. To which I would reply, “go bigger.” And we would have this exchange until I saw your face light up and heard the excitement and hope in your voice that maybe, just maybe, it’s not too late.

It’s not too late.

BUT, we need to put our dreams somewhere visible. We need to put all of them somewhere we see them every. single. day. until they have seeped into our hearts, our subconscious, and are literally being manifested by our faith and belief that God can do BIG things, at ANY time, and with ANYONE!!!

Now dreams take some stepping out, some risk, and ACTION, but no need to get overwhelmed. Small steps. One foot in front of the other. Rome wasn’t built in a day (not sure how long it took to build Rome). Just do the next thing, one of my old pastors says. Do the next thing. And today, the next thing is a DREAM BOARD!!!

Visualization is an act of creating images, either in your mind or physically to communicate a message. This is where we will start with our dream board. It is imperative that if you want a certain thing to happen, you see it in your mind, you feel how it would feel to have achieved that certain dream. And then to take it a step further, find what it looks like, cut it out, and paste it onto a BIG BOARD!

Go get one of those thick white poster/project boards from Hobby Lobby, magazines (home, décor, travel, fitness, entrepreneur, fashion etc.), really good scissors, and glue. Start going through said magazines and find images and words that depict your dreams and get to cutting! The sky is the limit. If you find yourself saying, “That will never happen,” that is when you know you HAVE to cut it out. Darkness, resistance, makes us want to think small and fear our dreams, so be prepared for that and keep cutting.

Start assembling your board as organized or as crazy jam packed as you want it. But the most important thing is, once you’re done, put it somewhere where YOU will see it. I don’t want this in the office you never go in, or the kids’ playroom (because it doesn’t match any other room). I want this to go in your bathroom or in the kitchen, in your room or even in your car! I want your neighbors seeing it when they come over…don’t hide it. Be proud of your dreams and be proud of yourself for being open to them!

Invite your friends over and do this together. Or if you have a family, get them involved. Make this a Friday night fun night! It is important that your kids see you dream too, because it gives them permission to know that their dreams REALLY can come true. This is not a small thing. Your kids long to see you excited and happy as well moms and dads. So, order some pizza, make sundaes, and get to dreaming. (Sounds so fun, I think I will do another one with my family.)

I love y’all. So much. I so badly want all of us to love to live and dreaming is so much a part of this! Please let me know how yours went. I would LOVE to see it! Tag me @laurenraineytenney.
